Mysteries of Martha’s Vineyard

Check out these fun cozy mysteries from Guideposts and author Janice Thompson.

Like a Fish Out of Water

When Priscilla discovers an inscribed World War I sword hidden behind a painting on her bedroom wall, questions abound. Was the sword used as a murder weapon in a generations-old village mystery, one that pitted a local war hero against a young villager? Will the discovery of it cast a negative light on her great-grandfather, who appears to be the chief suspect in the case? Can she prove her ancestor’s innocence without turning the whole island against her?

Priscilla narrows the large number of suspects until the real perpetrator is revealed. Along the way, she learns more about her great grandfather’s heroism during the Great War and comes to the realization that some battles are worth fighting, no matter how difficult.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

In the throes of a rough election season, the wife of the town’s slyest, most-reelected politician goes missing from the Woods Hole ferry. Victor Fox’s chief opponent, Tony McClaren, has sworn he’ll do whatever it takes to topple Victor’s iron-fisted reign. Could that include kidnapping Fox’s wife, Betty? Priscilla hears rumors that Victor has been seeing another woman—his secretary, Eliza, and Priscilla’s investigation takes on new urgency when she discovers the woman was on the same ferry as Betty. Did Betty take her own life—or meet with foul play? Or has she simply slipped away, hoping to start anew? As Priscilla digs further into Betty’s disappearance, she soon realizes that finding the truth presents her with her greatest challenge yet.
In the midst of the investigation surrounding Betty’s disappearance, Tony McClaren asks for Priscilla’s help on the campaign trail. However, Priscilla soon begins to think he’s interested in more than just a volunteer for his campaign. Will Priscilla be able to assure him—and Captain Gerald O’Bannon—that all she can offer the would-be politician is friendship?

Beyond the Sea

Priscilla is thrilled when her friend Eliza Jamison solicits her help with a special surprise wedding gift for her husband-to-be, Carson Fletcher. Unbeknownst to Carson, Eliza has purchased a perfectly restored classic 1957 Chevy Bel Air—a convertible, no less—and is having it delivered to the island. But when the car arrives and is stored in Gerald’s garage, it vanishes—just thirty-six hours before the wedding ceremony. Priscilla is distraught and feels personally responsible for its disappearance, so she sets out to find the classic car. Can she find and return the vehicle to its rightful owners in time for the nuptials, or will Eliza’s dreams of riding off into the sunset with her new husband be crushed?
