Storms, Stories & Spiced Cookies

Find comfort in stormy seasons with molasses cookies, gingerbread treats, cozy mysteries, and a historical Texas romance—anchored in God’s promises.

Storms on the Gulf

This time of year in Texas, hurricane season is always on our minds. Living on the Gulf Coast means we’re no strangers to storms, but it also makes us appreciate the comfort of home even more.

I always seem to turn to baking to calm my spirit, and can often be found (once power has returned) whipping up sweet treats for local police and firefighters, as well as those who are out rescuing flood victims. During October, warm spices and sweet aromas are a lovely reminder that joy can be found in small, simple things—even in the stormy seasons of life.

Molasses & Ginger: Fall’s Comforting Flavors

When the winds rage outside, the smell of gingerbread or molasses baking in the oven feels like hope rising. These old-fashioned flavors carry a sense of tradition, hospitality, and comfort.

Here are a few recipes to enjoy, no matter the weather!

Stories for Stormy Nights

Sometimes the best way to weather a storm is with a good story.

If you want to lean into Texas history, pick up a copy of Hurricane, a historical romance set during the devastating 1900 Galveston hurricane. This novel is a reminder that while storms come and go, love and faith endure.

Faith for the Floodwaters

Isaiah 43:2 gives us this promise: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”

As we walk through literal storms—and the stormy seasons of life—we can rest in the knowledge that God is with us. Baking, reading, and gathering with loved ones become small but powerful reminders of His presence and provision.

An Invitation

This October, why not plan your own cozy evening? Bake molasses cookies, brew something warm, curl up with a good book, and let God’s peace settle your heart—even if the wind rattles the windows outside.

Much love,
