Putting Together a Press Kit 

All published authors need a press kit (a folder loaded with information about you).  A good press kit might include the following:

Author Bio with photo:  You - at a glance 

An author bio is critical to your survival as an author.  That bio should be limited to one – two pages and should include all of the following information:

Your contact information

Your agent’s contact information (if applicable)

Basic information about you, both personal and professional

Your publishing credits 

Your affiliations (if you belong to a critique group, a writing organization, etc. say so here)

Your credentials, if applicable

Business Cards: Your contact information at a glance

Your best form of advertising 

Keep them on-hand at all times

Think twice before putting your personal contact information “out there”

Make two versions of your business card: one with personal information, the other with basic contact information, like an email address.

Press Release:  Your latest books (or project) at a glance

A press release has a specific format that always begins with the words FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Press releases can be sent to your local radio and television stations to announce your latest book release or project.  The can also be sent to newspapers and to a variety of online release services.

Speaking Topics: 

Come up with a list of speaking topics relevant to your book or project 

If you charge a fee/stipend, let groups/organizations know in advance

Interview Questions:

List 10 questions interviewers can ask you 

Endorsements:

If you have acquired endorsements for your book, list them 

If you have acquired endorsements for your speaking engagements, list them

If your books has won any awards/contests, state it here

If you’ve been promoted in the newspaper, you could include a clip here 

Community Service Sheet:

List your involvement in the community, particularly if/as it relates to your book/topic.
